Whilst the Maple Tree remains closed, the goodwill and community spirit so evident in our opening months, remains alive and well.

A ROUND OF APPLAUSE

Many of our cafe volunteers, along with others in the village, have gone out of their way to support neighbours and those most vulnerable. We applaud the setting up of the Repton Community Group Covid – 19 which is doing an excellent job of ensuring no one in our community is left struggling and without support.

OUR REGULARS

Richard, our IT Silver Surfer guru, has worked extremely hard to help in the setting up of the www.repton.info website, as well as continuing to offer support and advice over the phone and via e mails, to those having difficulties accessing the internet. The social media sites and Apps such as WhatsApp, Zoom, Houseparty etc have allowed family and friends to stay in touch at this very difficult time.

Our Maple Tree knitting group are using this time to put their knitting skills to good use, many knitting for the Nimble Knitters Project in Sub Saharan Africa, led enthusiastically by Eileen.

Carol, who runs our Thursday Writing Group, has also set up weekly quizzes on the www.repton.info website, to ensure we keep our brains ticking over.

Pauline and Robert, who have worked so hard on the outside areas of the cafe in recent months, are continuing to inspire us with their gardening tips and ideas. They have produced some excellent newsletters and videos, again all available to view on www.repton.info. Pauline may have a future in television! Robert in filming!

REPTON’S BAKE OFF

We feel sure our volunteer bakers will be at home perfecting their baking skills even further so we will have lots of new treats to sample when the cafe reopens. In the meantime, if you are missing our delicious cakes and want to try making a quick and easy Granola Biscuit to enjoy with your morning coffee, please follow the recipe below. Both Jamie Oliver and Denise recommend it!

GRANOLA BISCUIT RECIPE

Ingredients:

100g of each of the following: self raising flour, butter, dried fruits/nuts (combo), golden syrup & oats

Method:

Pulse ingredients in food processor to bind. Put in tin and bake 180 for 15 mins. Cut into 16 and enjoy!

We are so looking forward to the reopening of the Maple Tree and welcoming everyone back with a renewed and even greater community spirit. We will have lots to celebrate.
